Walton County will be hosting public workshops for the update of the Walton County Land Development Code on September 11, 13 and 14, 2017. The public is invited to attend the workshops and learn about the county’s initiative to update the Land Development Code for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan and to achieve a high quality built environment while preserving and enhancing the natural environment. Meeting participants will have an opportunity to provide input on areas of concern.

The public is encouraged to attend the workshops. Your input is important and will help the county ensure that the Land Development Code continues to serve the needs of all county citizens.

The workshops will be conducted in three locations for your convenience:

Santa Rosa Beach

The following documents are for Phase II of III of the Work-In Progress Draft Comprehensive Plan Update for Walton County and Chapter 2 of the Land Development Code.

These documents include the Work-In-Progress Draft Comprehensive Future Land Use Element, Economic Development Element, Intergovernmental Coordination Element, Chapter 2 – Zoning Districts of the Land Development Code and a Summary of the Changes in this Phase of Drafts.

Drafts of these documents were presented to the Planning Commission at a Special Meeting on August 21 at the DeFuniak Springs Courthouse. The Planning Commission deferred a recommendation on the update to Chapter 2 of the Land Development Code to a future meeting.

On June 12, 2017, the Planning Commission heard the first set of Comprehensive Plan Updates to the Conservation, Coastal Management, Recreation and Open Space, and Housing Elements. At this meeting the Planning Commission made recommendations to the Conservation, Recreation and Open Space, and Housing Elements. There were no recommended changes to the Coastal Management Element.
